The Cal Mag Fix
The Cal Mag Fix is a new device that allows you to change your fully featured AR-15, and many AR-10s, between stock operation and fixed/locked magazine modes. It does this in a way that is compliant with California requirements for fixed magazines, when installed and used properly. This means that the little, black plugs provided with the kit must be installed on the magazine catch as described in the installation instructions.
Unlike similar but less capable devices, everything here is mounted to the rifle with no extra parts to get lost or misplaced. There are also no extraneous tools or cumbersome motions required to operate it. It is always there and ready to go. What’s more, it’s sleek design is entirely contained within the rifle with no odd parts sticking out to get in the way or snag on things.
To switch between modes or to allow a magazine to be be dropped, the action must first be opened. When the switch key is down and engaged with the modified magazine catch provided, you are in fixed magazine mode, with the magazine locked in place, and legal in restricted states. When it isn’t, you aren’t. However, it is illegal operate in stock mode while in a restricted jurisdictions, so keep that in mind.
The Cal Mag Fix is also built tough. It’s all metal construction and welded joints will easily last for the life of the device. Also, an advanced pressure sensitive adhesive is used to mount the switch and this adhesive bond has been rigorously tested both by the manufacturer and ourselves However, an option to do a fully permanent glued in installation is provided. If that isn’t enough, the steel parts that aren’t hardened stainless are Parkerized for long lasting protection from rust. If you break our device through normal use, we will send replacement parts free of charge.
This device works with most AR-15s and 10s. If your rifle has a mil spec mag well on the lower and can work with a mil spec catch, it should work with this device. See the FAQ & Troubleshooting page for more information on fitment. As far as ambi release setups, if they use a mil spec catch they should work with this – but sadly, most don’t. Lastly, we have run both poly and metal magazines from a variety of manufacturers without issue.

“For purposes of this section, ‘fixed magazine’ means an ammunition feeding device contained in, or permanently attached to, a firearm in such a manner that the device cannot be removed without disassembly of the firearm action.“
The Cal Mag Fix was designed after an intensive review of competitive devices that have been on the market for years and are currently sold in regulated jurisdictions without issue.
As with any fixed magazine solution on the market, it is up to the user to be aware of and comply with any and all federal, state and local laws that affect the use of this device. That said, when installed and used properly, the Cal Mag Fix is compliant with California laws surrounding fixed magazine solutions. This does require that the plugs provided for the magazine catch be installed as described in the installation instructions.
While in any regulated jurisdiction that allows fixed magazine solutions for so called assault weapons, the Cal Mag Fix must be engaged with the magazine catch to prevent removal of the magazine.
Buyers are cautioned that operating a rifle with the Cal Mag Fix installed and in stock/non-fixed magazine mode while in a restricted jurisdiction would be illegal. In these jurisdictions, the device must be engaged with the modified magazine catch when the action is closed.
